After Mulk (2018), actress Taapsee Pannu and director Anubhav Sinha will be joining hands again for a film titled Thappad. According to a report in the tabloid Mumbai Mirror, the film will be a socio-political drama based on real-life events.

A source close to the development told the publication, “Anubhav had decided on casting her while they were still shooting Mulk. It’s a female-oriented subject that defies narratives typecasting women. It questions the society and will deliver a poignant message on world domination by women. Taapsee’s protagonist will be a middle-class girl.”

Although Mulk did average to decent business at the box office, it received enormous praises from the critics and audience alike. The film is about how a Muslim family tries to reclaim its lost honour after a young man from the family becomes a terrorist and carries out a bomb blast. The film saw Pannu play the role of a young and dynamic lawyer. The film also starred Rishi Kapoor in a pivotal role.

Pannu is currently shooting Saand Ki Aankh, the directorial debut of Tushar Hiranandani. He has been a writer on a number of films. The film is produced by Anurag Kashyap.

Sinha is currently busy with Article 15 which stars Ayushmann Khurrana.
