Box office: Rs59 crore in first week makes Rajkummar Rao's Stree a hit


While it’s all cheer for Stree, there's gloom for Yamla Pagla Deewana Phir Se as the film, starring Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby Deol, had a poor first week earning Rs9.25 crore nett.

Stree, starring Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi and Shraddha Kapoor, has become a hit after it bagged Rs59 crore nett in its first week. The horror comedy made Rs5.25 crore nett on its seventh day.

Made at an estimated budget of Rs20 crore, Stree was released across 1,800 screens in India on 31 August.

Speaking to Cinestaan.com, an elated Amar Kaushik, director of Stree, said, “We didn’t expect such numbers, but more than the box office, I’m happy with the kind of love and appreciation we have got from the audience. Our team would like to thank the audience.”

Horror comedies are far and few in Hindi and very few such films have succeeded. Talking about the appeal of Stree, Kaushik said, “We incorporated comedy into the horror to woo the family audiences. Stree is a very clean film. There is nothing in it that a family cannot see together."
