After Rajkahini (2015), actress Jaya Ahsan is back working with filmmaker Srijit Mukherji in his upcoming courtroom drama Ek Je Chhilo Raja. Ahsan will be seen playing the sister of Raja Mahendra Kumar Choudhury (Jisshu Sengupta), who returns as Bhawal Sanyasi to his Bikrampur Estate after having been presumed dead by his people.

“When I was first approached by Srijit da, my interest was not solely confined to my character; rather, I was quite fascinated with the story itself,” the actress, who often visited Bhawal Garh, close to her hometown  Dhaka, in her childhood, said in a video posted by the production house SVF on its Twitter handle.

“I hardly knew that there were layers of stories, drama and mysteries behind the historical significance of the place. I could start unfolding those layers when I started shooting for the film, and also could relate to the experiences of my childhood of going to those places,” she said. In the film, her character is the one that believes the King is alive and searches for him in several places after his supposed death.

Ek Je Chhilo Raja is her first film with Jisshu Sengupta. “I knew Jisshu da as a wonderful human being and a friend. This time I got to know how passionate he is as an actor,” she said.

Ahsan is also overwhelmed to see Anjan Dutta and Aparna Sen performing live and considers it a privilege to watch them work.

“Working with experienced co-actors always enriches me a lot. I have a lot of expectation from this film as a great team-work has been invested in it. I have been fascinated again and again while shooting for the film and I am sure that the audience will have the same experience once it hits the theatre,” Ahsan concluded.

Ek Je Chhilo Raja is set to be released on 12 October.
