Bhaiaji Superhit song 'Sleepy Sleepy Akhiyan': Better an RIP than these 'sleepy eyes'

What were the lyricist and composer smoking when they came up with this horror that embarrasses not just the viewers, but also Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta?

Mayur Lookhar

With their film long in the making, the producers of Bhaiaji Superhit are probably just glad to see it get released. But you do wonder why the film was delayed for so long. Surely it can't be because the makers were pursuing excellence. The film's trailer was anything but impressive. And now a new song has been released which is of such poor quality that your heart sinks.

The song is the bizarre 'Sleepy Sleepy Akhiyan'. After three minutes of the song video, you wish you hadn't lived to see or hear it. The lyrics are so poor you wonder what songwriter Kumaar was smoking when he came up with this.

The poor mishmash of Hindi and English words stings your ears. One can only hope the producer or director did not put a gun to Kumaar’s head to get him to write this. Jokes apart, the song reflects poorly on the writer.

A wedding song, 'Sleepy Sleepy Akhiyan' opens with a fine, peppy tune, making you believe it could be a rollicking number. But the moment the lyrics come on, you switch off, even if some of the rhythm is reminiscent of 'Main Kudi Anjaani' from Zor (1998).

Just like the Zor song with Sushmita Sen, Sleepy Sleepy is guilty of terrible choreography. Maybe it is pure coincidence that both songs feature Sunny Deol.

Deol did not dance in the Zor track. And in 'Sleepy Sleepy Akhiyan' he merely walks. It's Zinta who takes the cake here.

With such poor lyrics, you can't blame the singers. Asees Kaur and Yasser Desai would probably like to forget this as a bad dream. Composer Jeet Gannguli, too, was perhaps helpless.

The song has a lavish setting but that counts for nothing when the track itself is so poor. The only bright spot is that the lyrics and visuals make for great laughs.

Watch the 'Sleepy Sleepy Akhiyan' song below. We hope it doesn’t put you to sleep. Bhaiaji Superhit is set to be released on 19 October.
