Box office: Stree reaches Rs93.66 crore in two weeks, Paltan and Laila Majnu struggle

Meanwhile, Hollywood's The Nun, a horror-drama, bagged Rs38.25 crore nett in its first week.

Two weeks on Stree, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, continues to grow strong in cinemas. Amar Kaushik's horror-comedy is closing in on Rs100 crore as it has bagged a total of Rs93.66 crore nett at the box office, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com. 

Does Stree's success mean Rajkummar Rao is now a commercially viable star?

The film enjoyed a decent collection of Rs3.50 crore nett on Thursday (13 September), a holiday in parts of India due to Ganesh Chaturthi. Made at an estimated budget of Rs20 crore, Stree released across 1,800 screens in India.  The film is already a super-hit with artistes like Rajkummar and Pankaj Tripathi eyeing their first Rs100 crore film.

Meanwhile last week’s releases Paltan and Laila Majnu had a disastrous first week. JP Dutta’s Paltan has made a total of Rs7 crore nett, while Sajid Ali’s Laila Majnu has only managed Rs2.35 crore so far. Made at an estimated budget of Rs30 crore, Paltan was released across 1,500 screens in India. 

Hollywood horror-drama The Nun emerged winner as it bagged Rs38.25 crore in the week.

Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan and Nitin Kakkar's Mitron hits the screens today (14 September). It will be interesting to see how Stree fares in the coming weeks.
