With Aayush Sharma's debut film Loveratri set in the Navratri festival, the film needed a popular garba number to really get its music album going. Composer Tanishk Bagchi manages to infuse the energy, rhythm and fun element into 'Rangtaari', the latest track to be added to a decent album.
The song is definitely aimed at hyping Sharma's 'hero-entry' into the scene. From his six-pack abs to the stylishly choreographed moves, there is no doubt the song is all about Sharma's hero.
The actor does manage to do justice to the number with his energetic dance moves, and looks like he might fit into the character, a Navratri-fanatic dancer. The bright lights, colours and costumes also make for an attractive visual element to the song.
The choreography looks simple but effective and incorporates both traditional garba moves and some more stylish pops to keep the modern garba enthusiasts happy.
Sung by Dev Negi, the song is good and might make for a decent addition to the Navratri playlist this year. Bagchi's composition uses the traditional percussion of the dhol, and the shehnai, to create the feel of garba. The focus remains on the beats and the vocals which make the most of the garba moves.
The lyrics by Shabbir Ahmed are a mix, with a tribute to the traditionally popular garba songs like 'Yashomati Maiyya Se' and 'Udi Udi Jaaye'. There is even a subtle hint at the 'Dum Dum Dhol Baaje' from another iconic garba hit, and a Salman Khan-starrer, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1997).
The only disappointing factor is the Yo Yo Honey Singh rap section, which seems unnecessary. The rapper tries his best to bring a very 'raas' colour to his rap, but it seems out of place. The rap section takes the song's choreography out of sync, although rap is all the rage these days.
Loveratri is directed by Abhiraj Minawala and is set to be released on 5 October 2018.
