After winning over audiences in Toronto, Canada, writer-director Vasan Bala's Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota is heading home for its Indian premiere. The film has been selected to be the opening film at the 20th Mumbai Film Festival.

The announcement was made earlier today. Previous opening films for the festival have been Aligarh (2016), A Death In The Gunj (2017), and Mukkabaaz (2018). Vasan's film has won the prestigious People’s Choice Award at Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness section. It was the first Indian film to be chosen for the festival.

Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota, starring Abhimanyu Dassani and Radhika Madan, is about a young man, Surya, suffering from congenital insensitivity to pain and takes on a mission to take on 100 muggers. With the help of his friend Supri, he goes up against the Kung Fu master Mani and his evil twin, Jimmy.

Gulshan Devaiah and Mahesh Manjrekar are also part of the film produced by Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP Movies. The Asian rights for the film have been bought by Hong Kong's Autumn Sun Company.

The 20th edition of the Mumbai Film Festival will be held from 25 October to 1 November.
