Actor Dev Adhikari turned up to promote the launch of the Durga Puja guide map for 2018 by the Kolkata police at the Lalbazar police headquarters on Thursday.

A few creative posters of his upcoming Puja release, Hoichoi Unlimited, were also issued to spread awareness regarding traffic rules during the days of festivity.

Saswata Chatterjee, one of the lead actors of Hoichoi Unlimited, and music director Savvy Gupta were also present.

Adhikari, a member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress, has been associated with the ‘Safe Drive Save Life’ campaign for the past six years. According to him, cinema is the most effective medium to spread awareness among the masses.

Adhikari congratulated the Kolkata police and chief minister Mamata Banerjee for their initiative to make the Puja celebrations safer. “I don’t think the police in any other state are as well organised as ours," the actor-producer said. "They are making good use of the tech-savvy tendency of this generation and making it easier for people to locate their Puja pandals, destinations and help centres through their app”.

Adhikari said he never shoots a scene of riding a two-wheeler without a helmet as he believes that people tend to emulate their on-screen idols.

The Hoichoi Unlimited-inspired comic posters use several taglines of the Kolkata police, such as ‘After Whiskey, Driving Is Risky’, and feature animated characters from the film.

Adhikari said, “It is common to drink during festivals, but I would advise the common people to not drive. Instead take a taxi or Uber if they are drunk.”

Directed by Aniket Chattopadhyay, Hoichoi Unlimited is slated for release on 12 October.
