The trailer of Mainak Bhaumik's upcoming film Generation Ami promises to bring out the conflicts between the generations and their ideals.

Generation Ami stars Rwitobroto Mukherjee, Shantilal Mukherjee, Aparajita Adhya and Sauraseni Maitra.

Rwitobroto plays the protagonist Apu, who is over-protected by his parents (Adhya and Shantilal). He is not allowed to explore life on his own; his mother even feeds him and makes sure he remembers all his lessons.

In the trailer, Apu is seen to be raising the question with humour: if Bob Dylan had been fed by his mother, would he have ever written a song like ‘Blowing In The Wind’? He would perhaps have been blown away in the wind himself.

Enter Apu’s hot and smart cousin, played by Maitra, who is his confidante as well. Apu’s batchmate and crush Piya is the source of relief amidst the relentless grilling he faces in the name of studying and preparations for examinations.

Apu loves to write songs, but his father is adamant on not encouraging him into any kind of 'distractions' as he needs to appear for the IIT entrance examination.

The conflict between his passion and his parents’ expectations takes away the peace at Apu's home. He continues to have his sister’s back; however, from a few glimpses, it appears that she, too, has to struggle with complications in her life that are not revealed in the trailer.

The trailer ends with a dialogue. While Apu’s father says, “The generation is like this. I, me, myself is ruining them.” Apu dejectedly asks, “Have you ever tried to hear your kids out?”

The trailer suggests that Bhaumik has attempted to touch upon a lot of issues, including parental pressure and the crisis arising from the alienation of the present generation.

While there are bleak sides to the film, Apu’s attempt at finding happiness amidst his strictly scheduled routine offers moments of comic relief as well. Also, the brother-sister equation seems to be an interesting aspect to look forward to.
