October is proving to be a career-defining month for actor Ayushmann Khurrana. After the success of Andhadhun, that has so far bagged Rs49 crore nett in domestic business, Khurrana is bracing for a bigger success with Badhaai Ho, that was released two weeks later on 18 October.
After bagging a good opening of Rs7.25 crore nett on the opening day, Badhaai Ho saw a good jump on day two bagging Rs11.50 crore nett, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com.
Badhaai Ho has so far collected Rs18.75 crore nett in two days.
Produced by Junglee Pictures, Badhaai Ho is made at an estimated budget of Rs30 crore, and was released in more than 200 screens. The day two collection for Badhaai Ho is the highest ever single day collection for any Khurrana film. Andhadhun took two weeks to collect Rs49 crore nett, but Badhaai Ho is likely to touch Rs40 crore nett in four days.
Trade analyst Atul Mohan felt that Khurrana was helped by the performance of Andhadhun.
"Content has ruled again. Two weeks ago we had Andhadhun, now this. Ayushmann is on a roll. He started his career with Vicky Donor (2012) and since then he has always picked different subjects. Earlier, there was Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017) and he has given a thriller [Andhadhun] and now Badhaai Ho,” said Mohan.
Badhaai Ho is the story of a family in which a mother in her 50s becomes pregnant and how her awkward son [played by Khurrana] deals with the situation. The film also features Neena Gupta and Sania Malhotra.
Meanwhile, there was no joy for Vipul Amrutlal Shah as his Namaste England fared poorly on day two as well, where it could only manage Rs2 crore nett.
The film, starring Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra, has so far earned Rs3.50 crore nett. Made at an estimated budget of Rs55 crore, Namaste England was released across more than 1,800 screens in India. The film got bad reviews, and director Shah was has been accused of sexual harassment by Iranian actress Elnaaz Norouzi.
