Actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan turned 64 on 7 November. On the occasion, Lyca Productions officially announced Indian 2, a sequel to Shankar’s blockbuster film Indian (1996), which starred Kamal Haasan as father and son in dual roles.
While the makers are yet to reveal more details about the project, rumours are doing the rounds that Dulquer Salmaan and Simbu may have landed key roles in the highly anticipated film.
It is being rumoured that Simbu will play a police officer in the film, which marks the reunion of Shankar and Kamal Haasan after two decades.
Actress Kajal Aggarwal is said to be the top contender to play the leading lady while Anirudh Ravichander has been finalized to compose the music.
The pre-production work is already underway and Kamal Haasan is expected to shed weight to play his character. He is believed to be going through a strict weight-loss programme under the supervision of a team of trainers from the United States.
The news about Indian 2 was first announced during the first season of the Tamil edition of Bigg Boss, which was hosted by Kamal Haasan.
There are also reports that the actor-filmmaker might revive Sabaash Naidu, the spin-off based on the character Balram Naidu from Dasavatharam; however, there is no official word on the film yet.
The project went on the floors a couple of years ago and the team even shot a schedule in the United States. Following an unfortunate incident, when Kamal Haasan fell down on his office staircase and sprained a leg, the project was put on the back burner.
Meanwhile, Indian 2 is expected to go on the floors early next year. The buzz is that the film, to be made on a lavish budget, will be predominantly shot abroad.
Lyca Productions took over the reins of the project from producer Dil Raju after he chose to opt out for reasons that remain unknown. The film will be simultaneously made in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu.
