Box office: Slow start for 102 Not Out, Omertà on opening day


102 Not Out, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, earned around Rs3.25-3.50 crore nett; while Omertà collected Rs50 lakh on its opening day.

This Friday saw two prominent films at the box office in Umesh Shukla’s 102 Not Out and Hansal Mehta’s dark film, Omertà.

102 Not Out, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, earned around Rs3.25-3.50 crore nett on its opening day, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com. The makers had organised a press screening on Tuesday itself, but with the positive reviews out only on the opening day, the film failed to cash in on the positive publicity.

According to trade sources, 102 Not Out is made at an estimated budget of Rs38 crore and has been released in around 1,100 screens in India.

Meanwhile, Hansal Mehta’s Omertà, which has been well received at international film festivals, performed poorly in India, collecting Rs50 lakh on its opening day. According to trade sources, Omertà is made at an estimated budget of Rs12 crore and has been released in 800 screens in India. The film features Rajkummar Rao in the role of British terrorist of Pakistani origin Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh.

Both films, 102 Not Out and Omertà, will have to do really well on the weekend to boost their prospects.

Meanwhile, last week's big Hollywood release, Avengers: Inifnity War, continued to be the audience favourite as it made Rs7 crore nett on Day 8. The multi-starrer superhero film has so far earned Rs163.08 crore nett in India.
