Amitabh Bachchan recreates pain of ‘Waqt Ne Kiya’ in 102 Not Out

The song captures the separation between Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor's characters.

102 Not Out is the latest film to present an old song in a new way. In a big relief, it is not repackaged in a silly way. The song does justice to the old classic ‘Waqt Ne Kiya’ from Guru Dutt’s Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959).

So far, the promos and songs released from 102 Not Out have been funny or light-hearted. 'Waqt Ne Kiya' shows a serious side to the film. The two characters, played by Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor, seem to be going through an emotional upheaval which has forced them to part ways. The song is presented in black and white that adds a sombre touch.

The characters' situation is explained through this song in Bachchan’s voice. The veteran actor succeeds in bringing out the pain. Composer duo Rohan-Vinayak use a simple score and minimum instruments, including a guitar to make an impact.

The original song 'Waqt Ne Kiya' is about two estranged lovers, played by Guru Dutt and Waheeda Rehman. In this case, it sees a father-son duo struggle to embrace the distance between them caused, probably, by a misunderstanding.

Directed by Umesh Shukla, 102 Not Out will be out in theatres on 4 May.
