Priyanka Sarkar wins Best Actress award at 8th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival


The festival, which began in 2011, is organised each year in Delhi NCR on 30 April, marking the birth anniversary of Dhundiraj Govind Phalke.

Actress Priyanka Sarkar won the Best Actress award at the 8th Dadasaheb Phalke Film Festival, 2018 for her performance in Arnab Middya’s feature film Andarkahini: Self Exile (2017).

The film narrates stories of four female characters, all played by Sarkar, and their relationships with their father, brother, husband and friend. Soumitra Chatterjee, Sumit Samaddar, Sayani Ghosh, Rajesh Sharma and Prasun also play significant roles in the film.

The story delves into women’s constant struggle and survival in various circumstances. Interestingly, the director has retained the real names of the other characters in the film. The entire film has been shot in Bangladesh.

“Honoured to receive the Best Actress Award for the film Andarkahini at the 8th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival, 2018, that too on the birth anniversary of Phalke - The Father of Indian Cinema. Sincere thanks to the jury and the director of the film Arnab Middya, for the trust in me,” the actress wrote in her Twitter handle.

Members from the Bengali film fraternity, Mimi Chakraborty, Nusrat Jahan, Tanusree Chakraborty and Arindam Sil congratulated Sarkar for the award.
