The director has now sued his leading lady for signing on Rohit Shetty's Simmba before finishing the Kedarnath schedule.
Kedarnath heads for more trouble as Abhishek Kapoor takes Sara Ali Khan to court
Mumbai - 25 May 2018 15:29 IST
The controversy over Kedarnath refuses to die down. After the film's production wrangles with KriArj Entertainment, it has run into another legal tangle between director Abhishek Kapoor and actress Sara Ali Khan. The director has reportedly taken the actress to court for signing on Rohit Shetty's Simmba before clearing up the schedule for Kedarnath.
The Times of India reported that 'a producer' had taken the actress to court over a dispute of dates for the film. The suit was argued for by counsel, Sharan Jagtiani, in front of the bench of SJ Kathawalla, on Friday.
While there is no mention of the name of the producer, several reports conclude that the suit has been filed by Kapoor's own, The Guy In The Sky Productions. The Times of India report suggested that the actress had agreed to play the lead in Kapoor's film. However, when the schedule was extended from May to July, the actress's agent suggested that she will not be available as she is expected to begin shooting for another film in the same duration.
This has left Kapoor in a detente, and the makers of the film have asked the Bombay high hourt to look into the matter. They have also demanded a remuneration of Rs5 crore for breach of contract and damages incurred.
A couple of days ago, father Saif Ali Khan and Sara Ali Khan paid a visit to Kapoor's office to discuss the wrangle over the dates. It seemed that the problem had reached a situation where the senior actor had to intervene on his daughter's behalf.
We tried contacting Kapoor for clarifications on the report, but he remained unavailable.
Kedarnath was supposed to be the debut of Sara. The actress was cast alongside Sushant Singh Rajput when the film was announced back in 2017. Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP and Kapoor's The Guy In The Sky Productions are the two key producers of the film.
Kedarnath is to be released on 30 November 2018.
