The Last Color teaser: Neena Gupta finds purpose to live again

The film is based on the novel by chef Vikas Khanna.

The first teaser of Vikas Khanna's directorial debut, The Last Color (2018), was released at Cannes, France on the producers' opening night. Th drama, starring Neena Gupta as a  70-year-old child widow, is based on Khanna's book of the same name.

Khanna shared the teaser online on Twitter. The writer-director was present at the festival with Gupta.

The teaser, clocking in at just over a minute, establishes Varanasi as the setting of the story. It also introduces us to Gupta's Noor, a child widow, who wishes to play Holi again. Living alongside Noor in the city are a bunch of street children, among them, Choti. She and Noor strike up a friendship with a promise to play Holi.

However, a tragic incident which Choti witnesses threatens to disrupt their joyous plan. Will the two finally be successful? The teaser declares that the film is "a victory of the human spirit", and therefore instills a seed of hope within viewers.

The Michelin star chef was inspired to make The Last Color after seeing a photograph of an older woman lying on the ground in Holi colours in Varanasi by Susannah Ireland.

No release date has been announced as yet, but the book version is due to be out soon.
