The Alia Bhatt starrer Raazi (2018) has emerged a winner at the box office in the first weekend. The film, directed by Meghna Gulzar, has earned Rs32.75 crore in the first three days at the box office in India, as per figures shared by BoxOfficeIndia.com.

A good first weekend seemed possible when Raazi opened at Rs7.50 crore on opening day. The impressive number coupled with the very positive word-of-mouth and reviews were enough to predict a good jump in the next two days. Naturally, Raazi made Rs11.25 crore and Rs14 crore in the next two days.

The first day collection of Raazi was little below the Priyanka Chopra starrer Mary Kom (2014), which had opened at Rs8.32 crore. But Raazi has gone ahead of that film in terms of the weekend collections. The Mary Kom biopic had made Rs29.88 crore in the first three days. Considering Priyanka’s seniority and popularity being much more than Alia, Raazi’s achievement appears even larger.

Two films that amassed much more than Raazi and Mary Kom are Ragini MMS 2 (2014) and Jism 2 (2012). However, these were erotic thrillers that attracted a section of the audience that goes to the theatres for other reasons.

As per trade sources, Raazi is made at a budget around Rs40 crore. Hence, it won’t be long before it surpasses that number.

Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor starrer 102 Not Out (2018) also earned a decent number of Rs8.75 crore in its second weekend. The film’s grand total now stands at Rs36.14 crore.
