Cannes Film Festival is one of the most prestigious film events in the world. However, over the years, it has gained prominence for the celebrities walking the red carpet, and the clothes they are wearing.

The director-actor, through a series of tweets, pointed at the gala festival's deviation from films to red carpet and paparazzi.

“I feel #Cannes should have 2 sections. 1 where film makers meet, interact showcase their films. 1 where there’s just red carpets leading to nowhere. Where people dress up, pose, pout, showcase their clothes & fashion sense. #Cannes2018 #CannesFilmFestival2018,” said one of his tweets.

Celebrities in sprawling, long gowns is a common sight at the Cannes red carpet. Kohli questioned if these celebrities watched films dressed up like that.

“Do all the people who dress up and pose on the red carpet go and watch any films in their gowns? I would love to be proved wrong. I feel they just walk the red carpet. Pose for photographers. Head back to their designer teams to plan the next red carpet walk. Quite cool actually,” he wrote in another tweet.

Director of successful films like Hum Tum (2004) and Fanaa (2006), Kohli even acted in his last venture Phir Se (2015), opposite actress Jennifer Winget.
