A spokesperson for the ministry said that if foul play had been suspected, the UAE authorities would not have released the body to the family.
No foul play in Sridevi's death, external affairs ministry clarifies

The Union external affairs ministry has clarified that there was no foul play in the death of actress Sridevi on 24 February 2018.
Sridevi died of accidental drowning in the bathtub in her hotel room in Dubai. She had gone to Dubai with other members of the family to attend the wedding of husband Boney Kapoor's nephew Mohit Marwah.
"As far as I know, the paperwork from the United Arab Emirates government has been handed over to us and on the basis of that the mortal remains were brought to India," spokesperson Raveesh Kumar told a press conference today. "Had there been something suspicious, it would have come out by now."
Initial reports had stated that the actress had died of cardiac arrest, but the forensic report mentioned accidental drowning as the cause of death. This fuelled speculation in a section of the media about possible foul play.
Sridevi's body was cremated in Mumbai on 28 February.
