The trailer of Ranjan Ghosh’s upcoming film Rong Beronger Korhi was launched yesterday (6 March) in the presence of the film's director Ranjan Ghosh, lead actors Soham Chakraborty, Arunima Ghosh, producer Rupa Datta and art director Tanmoy Chakraborty. The film reportedly explores the issue of demonetisation with four different yet connected stories.

The film also features Rituparna Sengupta, Ritwik Chakraborty, Chiranjeet Chakraborty, Kharaj Mukherjee, Arjun Chakraborty and Ritobroto Mukherjee in important roles. Both Sengupta and Arunima will be seen double roles in two different subplots of the film.

Aparna Sen, the creative consultant of the film, was not able to make it to the special occasion due ill health.

The director initially faced some rows with the Hindu Jagran Mancha in Kolkata for naming characters Ram and Sita in the film. However, he was later relieved as the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed the film without any cuts.

According to the director, the film speaks of the marginalised people in the society. “The story revolves around the elements of love, separation, profit and loss. The world in this story is inhabited by a tribal couple Ram (Soham Chakraborty) and Sita (Arunima Ghosh) and a government clerk Khagen (Kharaj Mukherjee). An old brick kiln owner (Chiranjeet Chakraborty), is young wife (also played by Arunima) and her friend Mithun (Arjun Chakraborty); an anonymous prostitute (Rituparna Sengupta), her pimp (Dhee Majumder) and her client (Ritwik Chakraborty); and finally a young Dhaki Joga (Ritobroto) and his ailing mother (also played by Rituparna Sengupta),” Ranjan said.

“This is my first film with my co-star Arunima and the director as well. I must say that I faced a lot challenges while essaying my role in the film” said actor Soham added.

Actress Arunima thanked her co-stars Rituparna and Soham. “I cannot thank Rupa di enough as this is my third film with Camelia Productions. Initially, I was not at all confident of the dialect that has been used in the film. However, as we started shooting in Shantiniketan and I started acting, I could gradually adapt to the character and did well. Thanks to my co-star Soham, without who, I don’t think I would have been able to enact my role,” she said.

The music of the film has been scored by Debajyoti Mishra. Rong Beronger Korhi will be released on the 23 March.
