Actor Jeetendra has been booked by the Shimla police for allegedly sexually assaulting his cousin 47 years ago in a hotel room. The woman had filed a complaint against the veteran actor in February this year.

According to the complainant, Jeetendra had taken her on a trip to a shooting location, and later assaulted her in the hotel room. The actor was 28 when the incident allegedly took place.

The Indian Express, a daily, reported that Shimla's superintendent of police, Umapati Jamwal, confirmed the filing of the report saying, "an FIR under section 354 IPC has been registered at Chotta Shimla police station. After her email, we got in touch with the complainant, who later had also sent us a written complaint to support her version."

The complainant is now expected to record her statement, and provide proofs of her stay where the reported incident allegedly took place. The news report also suggests that the laws regarding sexual assault at the time of the incident will be taken into consideration for this case.

The DGP has also been quoted saying, "After I got the email from the complainant, I referred it to SP Shimla. The police maybe doing whatever needed under the given circumstances."

Jeetendra's legal counsel had put out a statement calling the allegations 'miserable efforts by a jealous competitor'.
