Hansal Mehta's thirst for realistic stories just won't end. Awaiting the release of his Rajkummar Rao starrer, Omertà , the director has already announced his next project.

Mehta is set to direct a web-series based on Debashis Basu and Sucheta Dalal's bestseller, The Scam: From Harshad Mehta to Ketan Parekh. The series will be produced by Applause Entertainment, and will launch its first season by focussing on the famous scam by Harshad Mehta.

Would have been suffocated if I were living in Pakistan, says Omertà director Hansal Mehta

"I had read the The Scam many years ago and even toyed with the idea of making it into a film. The film never got made! I believe every story has its destiny. With our newspapers screaming scam every single day, I think the time for telling these stories was just right. When Sameer [Sameer Nair, CEO of Applause Entertainment] and I met to discuss what we could do together and he offered this subject to me I had to say yes!" the director said in a statement.

Fear of failure can be life-threatening, says Hansal Mehta

Mehta also put up a tweet announcing the project on his social media account. The director even cracked a joke saying 'I've always been mistakenly addresed as Harshad Mehta."

This will not be Mehta's first tryst with the digital medium. The director contributed as the creative producer on ALTBalaji's recent web series Bose: Dead/Alive, starring Rajkummar.

Not much is known about the casting for the project. Considering his success with projects based on real life subjects like Shahid (2010), Aligarh (2015) and Omertà, Mehta's interest is understandable.

The director's latest film Omertà will be released on 20 April.
