Businessman remanded to 6-day custody after being accused of rape by veteran actress

A day after a veteran Hindi film actress accused a city-based businessman of rape, the accused has been sentenced to police custody for the duration of six days. According to IANS, the accused, Sarfaraz Mohammed aka Aman Khanna, has been accused to taking cash, gold and silver jewellery worth Rs15.4 crore and also threatened and raped her.
The victim lodged a complaint with the Juhu police station in Mumbai, based on which the police arrested the accused. IANS reported deputy comissioner of police Nisar Tamboli remarking that the accused has been held under Sections 376, 420, 406, 465, 467, 468, 469, 471, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
According to the actress's complaint, the accused allegedly stole gold, jewelleries and valuables worth Rs15.4 crore from her between 2011 and 2015. In place of these valuables, he promised her four bungalows in the city for which he offered fake documents and cheated her. In addition, he forged a fake 'nikahnama' (marriage certificate) using which he threatened and raped her.
The complaint was lodged by the victim on 30 January, and the accused was arrested following an investigation by the Mumbai police. The case has now been transferred to the Crime Branch for further investigation.
