Director Raj Kumar Gupta’s Raid has fared decently at the Indian box office in its first week (16-22 March), earning Rs60.50 crore, as per figures shared by boxofficeindia.com. The film stars Ajay Devgn, Saurabh Shukla and Ileana D’Cruz.
Raid earned a good number over the weekend with Rs39.75 crore nett. On its first Monday film added another Rs6.25 crore to its kitty. However, the graph showed a drop in the subsequent weekdays: Tuesday-Rs5.5 crore, Wednesday-Rs4.85 crore and Thursday-Rs4.25 crore. This does not bode well for the film and the its total earning is not expected to reach a substantial number.
As per a trade source, Raid is produced at a cost of Rs70 crore. The film’s earnings will need to improve if this number is to be reached. Hopefully, the positive word-of-mouth might give it the chance it needs.
Siddharth P Malhotra's Hichki, starring Rani Mukerji, hit the screens today (23 March). However, this is unlikely to affect Raid's performance.
On the other hand, Luv Ranjan’s Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety managed to do well even in its fourth week at the box office. The film made Rs7.75 crore, taking its grand total to Rs95.63 crore nett.
