Superstar Aamir Khan turned 53 today (14 March). The actor usually has an interactive session with the media, and did the same this year too. He had been shooting in Rajasthan for Thugs Of Hindostan, but returned to the city to celebrate his birthday.
In a short group interaction, Khan spoke about joining Instagram, gave an update on Amitabh Bachchan's health, how the legend was the first one to wish him and how he wants to quit smoking. Wife Kiran Rao, who was seated next to Khan, revealed why she wouldn't want to change certain qualities in her husband.
"I didn't expect to be here as I was busy shooting. However, Victor (director Vijay Krishna Acharya) was kind enough to give me two days off. I got a surprise at the airport when Kiran turned up to receive me. I'm happy to be celebrating my birthday with Kiran, (son) Azad and my mother," Khan said.
"It is my birthday today, I thought I'd begin my Instagram journey by posting the image of the one lady because of whom I am here. Whatever I am today is because of her. It was Kiran who told me that she has been on Instagram for a while, and has enjoyed that process, so I thought I should give it a try too," he said, talking about his debut on the photo sharing app, Instagram.
Reflecting on the year gone by, Khan said, "Well it has been a great year. We had a wonderful success in the form of Secret Superstar. I have been fortunate to have have got the chance to work with Amitabh Bachchan. It's my dream come true to work with him. It's been a great year on the personal front too.
Speaking about Thugs Of Hindostan co-actor, Amitabh Bachchan's health, Khan said, "I shot with him last night. It is true that he had shoulder and back problems. The film has action. After many years you will see him do action. It is a challenging film for him and he is coping very well with it. Kabhi kabhi takleef bhi hoti hai. Parso raat jyada takleef thi, but he is better now."
He added, "Amit ji was the first one to wish me. We were shooting, then I hear a booming voice on the mic. He wished me in front of the entire unit. I was happy that he was the first person to wish me."
On one bad habit he wants to change, Khan said, "I'm a very obsessive personality. That is a problem. The bad habit is smoking."
Wife Kiran Rao said, "I don't want him to change. Although, I keep telling him that he smokes, doesn't spend too much time with us. Too occupied with his phone. However, I wouldn't be as happy if I tried changing him."
"There are too many qualities that I dont want him to change. His sensitivity and intelligence, for which I married him. The deep understanding which he has of people. His love, sense of caring, empathy for people, I think those qualities attracted me to him. Also his incredibly sharp creative mind. His ability to understand ideas, potential of ideas, these are things unique in him. I hope those never change," Kiran Rao added.
Speaking on his dream project Mahabharata, Khan said, "There are a number of things I am working on, as soon as I am clear about what I am doing I will tell you."
"I don't take fees. It has been many years since I stopped taking fees. A film earns less, I earn less, if it earns more, then I earn more," he revealed while talking about stars taking a pay cut.
