Actor and politician Kamal Haasan joined scores of others in paying tribute to cosmologist and physicist Stephen Hawking, who passed away in Cambridge on Wednesday. He was 76.

Interestingly, when Hawking was just 22 years old, he was given only a few years to live by doctors, who found that he had a rare form of motor neurone disease. However, fate had other plans.

The Britisher, who is known as much for his sense of humour as his Hawking radiation theory, could only speak with a voice synthesizer.

Haasan, who took to Twitter to pay homage to the brilliant scientist, said, "Thank you for the time you spent with the people of this world Mr. Stephen Hawking. The world will cherish your memory."
