After having directed several bloody violent films, Anurag Kashyap has finally decided to do it himself. The director's latest appearance as a psychotic serial killer in A Gnanamuthu's Imaikka Nodigal seems to be the culmination of an acting journey that began with Paanch (2003). The director plays a serial killer being hunted down by Nayanthara who plays a cop in the trailer to the film.

The trailer begins with a quaint adage about how every act in the world is fuelled by love, even the act of killing. Kashyap plays the anonymous serial killer on a spree in Chennai. His only point of contact remains Nayanthara's character, who is obsessed with bringing him down. As a parallel to the cat-and-mouse race, runs Atharvaa Murali and Raashi Khanna's tale of two young doctors in love. The two become collateral damage in the battle between the cop and the killer.

Vijay Sethupathi makes a cameo appearance as Nayanthara's groom in what seems like a flashback.

The trailer captures certain elements that are similar to Ek Villain (2014), but with a twist. At one point in the trailer, Atharvaa seems to imitate the signature expression of Kashyap's killer leading to the question of whether it is a case of mistaken identities. However, Kashyap's over-the-top performance seems a little jaded, in contrast to the subtle and restrained expressions of Nayanthara. Perhaps, that is the plan.

The trailer also has an interesting soundtrack by Hiphop Tamizha.

Directed by A Gnanamuthu, who earned acclaim for his film DeMonte Colony (2015), Imaikkaa Nodigal went on the floors in 2016. However, the producers' strike has led to a delay in the film's release. As of now, the trailer offers no clue towards the release date of the film.
