After actor Sanjay Dutt, Ranbir Kapoor looks set to walk in actor Aamir Khan's shoes. At a media interaction on Wednesday, the actor expressed a willingness to be a part of the sequel to 3 Idiots (2009) currently being scripted by Sanju (2018) director, Rajkumar Hirani. When asked if he would like to be a part of the sequel, Kapoor said he would do it blindly.

Earlier, tabloid Mid-Day reported that Rajkumar Hirani had begun working on the script for a sequel to the hit film, along with writer Abhijat Joshi, a few days ago.

The director said, "I definitely want to make a sequel to 3 Idiots. In fact, Abhijat [Joshi, writer] and I started writing something a few days ago. But it's still in the initial stage and we will take a fair amount of time to develop the script."

3 Idiots remains one of Hirani's most successful films. After its release in 2009, it became one of the biggest earning Hindi films by becoming the first film to earn Rs200 crore at the box office.

However, Hirani emphasized that with the promotions of Sanju, it is likely that the script for the sequel to 3 Idiots might take time to develop. Hirani is also set to revive the third film in the Munna Bhai franchise with Dutt. While there were reports of the film being shelved, it is now confirmed that the director is going to work on that after Sanju.

Naturally, when Kapoor was asked if he would like to be a part of the sequel when it is ready, he said, "Of course, I’ll do it blindly. I’ll do anything that Raju sir wants me to do. I don’t care what if its a sequel. I’ll do whatever he wants me to do."

Kapoor has already teamed up with Khan and Hirani once before, although in a cameo, in PK (2014). The actor played the alien who arrives in the last scene of the film, to take the place of Khan's departing PK.

If he is asked again by Hirani, the actor will likely step into the shoes of Khan again.

Hirani is currently busy with the promotions of Sanju. The film will be released on 29 June.
