Director Gippy Grewal’s Carry On Jatta (2012) had set a record opening for a Punjabi film when it bagged a gross of Rs3.05 crore. Carry On Jatta 2 has set the record for the highest grossing Punjabi film, as it bagged Rs29.25 crore (gross) in 11 days so far, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com.
The film beat the record of Diljit Dosanjh’s Sardarji (2015) that had grossed Rs25.43 crore. Both films are produced by Gunbir Singh Sidhu’s White Hill Entertainment. Carry On Jatta 2 features Grewal and Gurpreet Guggi.
Meanwhile, Veere Di Wedding, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Shikha Talsania and Swara Bhasker, continued to grow at the box office. The film earned Rs1.75 crore nett on its second Monday, taking its overall total so far to Rs67.71 crore nett.
Veere Di Wedding was released in more than 2,000 screens and is made at an estimated budget of Rs45 crore.
Among the holdover releases, actress Alia Bhatt-starrer Raazi continued to make small progress. The film made Rs2.47 crore nett in week five, to take its overall total Rs120.26 crore nett. Raazi is made at an estimated budget of Rs40 crore.
