Television actor Kavi Kumar Azad passed away early this morning due to a cardiac arrest. He is popular for his role as Dr Hansaraj Hathi in the SAB TV show, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. He was 45 and single.
"We are very sad to inform the loss of our senior actor Kavi Kumar Azad. He was playing the character of Dr Hathi in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. We lost him to a massive cardiac arrest he suffered today morning. He was an amazing and a positive person. He often came to the shoot even if he wasn't feeling well. He called this morning saying that he was feeling really unwell and wouldn't be able to come to the shoot. Later we got the news of him passing away. We are all too numb to say anything," Asit Kumarr Modi, producer and creator of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah said in a statement.
According to a source close to the show, Azad was in fine condition and wasn’t hospitalised. “He was a very heavy man, but he usually looked after his health. He wasn’t hospitalised lately. In fact, he was supposed to come to the shoot today, but told Asit ji that he was unwell. His death has come as shock to all of us.” said the source.
Azad had found fame on television, but he has also played cameo roles in films like Mela (2000) and Fun2shh...Dudes in the 10th Century (2003).
A former member of the cast informed that the funeral is likely to take place tomorrow once his parents arrive in the city. Azad had joined the show in 2009 after replacing Nirmal Soni, who had to quit the show due to ill health.
