Yatra, starring Mammootty will be the latest in a string of biopics arriving on the screens this year. The film, based on the life of the late Andhra Pradesh chief minister, YS Rajashekhara Reddy (fondly called YSR), is expected to be released in January 2019, and will star the Malayalam actor in and as the late controversial chief minister.
The teaser begins with the sight of Mammooty's YSR preparing for his 'padyatra' through the state of Andhra Pradesh. Before becoming chief minister, Reddy set out on a 1475-km long journey through the state. The journey played a key role in his election as chief minister in 2004. The title card, shaped as a footprint, also suggests that the film will revolve around this key moment in Reddy's electoral campaign.
While the actor does manage to catch some of the mannerisms of the late chief minister, his look is far from similar. In many ways, Mammooty remains unchanged in his appearance. It might be interesting to see how it pans out in the narrative of the biopic directed by Mahi V Raghav's.
The film will mark the veteran Malayali actor's return to Telugu cinema after two decades. He was last seen in Kodi Ramakrishna's Railway Coolie in 1998.
