Directed by Kabir Khan, the film, titled '83, will clash with Hollywood's action feature Fast And Furious 9 at the box office.

Last year director Kabir Khan announced that he would be making a film on India’s triumph in the 1983 cricket World Cup, titled '83, with Ranveer Singh playing the victorious former skipper Kapil Dev.

The film was initially believed to be due for release in August next year, but now it seems it will be released on 10 April 2020.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh announced the date on Twitter. “It's Ranveer Singh versus Vin Diesel... The makers of 1983 [sic], starring Ranveer and directed by Kabir Khan, have just announced the release date [10 April 2020]... Well, Vin Diesel's FastAndFurious9 is also releasing on 10 April 2020 in India... Interesting clash!” he wrote.

Singh is currently shooting for Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, which is set to be released in December this year.

It is interesting that '83 will hit the screens in 2020. The actor is expected to wrap up shooting for Simmba in about three months. Earlier, it was believed that after completing Simmba, he will begin work on Kabir Khan's film. But now with so much time between the Kabir Khan film and '83, it remains to be seen if the actor will take up another project before starting work on '83.

According to a few news reports, Singh might sign for Dhoom 4, with Salman Khan, and take up another Sanjay Leela Bhansali project.

However, a trade source denied any possibility of the actor accepting a new project before '83. “Ranveer will be busy for the rest of 2018 with Simmba. Thereafter he will take 1983 [sic]. The film's shooting will perhaps commence in 2019, and given the subject, I guess the filming itself might take 5-6 months. From what I have heard, the film will be heavy on VFX. So I don't think there is any possibility of him taking up another project before 1983 [sic]," the source explained.
