T-Series head honcho Bhushan Kumar has rubbished a report that said co-producer and actor Aamir Khan is keen to see Ranbir Kapoor play the role of Bhushan's father and music mogul, Gulshan Kumar.

Akshay Kumar was initially picked to play Gulshan Kumar, but backed out of the project later. In an earlier report, Bhushan was quoted as saying he was "looking for a bigger star". With Aamir Khan joining the project as a co-producer, it was widely perceived that the actor would himself play the titular role. However, DNA reported that Khan was keen to see Ranbir Kapoor play the role of Gulshan Kumar.

The same report also quoted a source as saying, “Bhushan feels Ranbir will suit the character. Since he is a good actor and has a good market value as well, the makers felt he was the perfect choice to play Gulshan Kumar. They have even discussed the whole idea with him, but they haven’t arrived at a decision yet.”

The report also stated that Khan had discussed the idea with Ranbir during the promotions of the latter's last release Sanju (2018) and that Ranbir wasn’t averse to taking up another biopic challenge.

When we contacted Bhushan for a clarification on whether Kapoor had been approached for the project, he simply replied: “No truth".

The Gulshan Kumar biopic will be directed by Jolly LLB franchise director Subhash Kapoor.

Ranbir is currently shooting for Brahmastra. Once he wraps that up, he will begin shooting for Luv Ranjan's untitled film, followed by Yash Raj Films' Shamshera. As for Khan, the possibility of him playing Gulshan Kumar cannot be ruled out. While there has been speculation around his interest in the epic Mahabharata, there is no official word on Khan's next project as an actor. He is awaiting the release of Thugs Of Hindostan at the end of this year.
