Dhadak (2018), which was released on 20 July, has collected Rs50.50 crore approximately in its opening week. This is a good number for a film being led by newcomers, Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter.

After a good opening weekend, where the film lapped up Rs33 crore in three days, the film, directed by Shashank Khaitan, had a decent first week. It held well on Monday (with Rs5.25 crore) and went on to collect Rs4.75 crore on Tuesday, Rs4 crore on Wednesday and Rs3.50 crore on Thursday.

Dhadak review: Soul goes missing in this love-in-the-times-of-caste adaptation

While the numbers dropped on Thursday, the film is expected to pick up once again in its second weekend, and has already emerged a hit. As per trade sources, the film has been made at a cost of Rs30 crore, as per figures by Boxofficeindia.com.

The film is nowhere close to recreating the history that its regional original made though. Dhadak is the Hindi remake of Nagraj Manjule's film Sairat (2016), which is the only Marathi film in cinema history to have crossed Rs100 crore at the box office. Sairat has lifetime collections of Rs110 crore approximately.
