Actor-producer Dhanush is set to travel to Melbourne for the Australian premiere of his first international project, The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir.

Directed by Ken Scott, the Indo-French co-production was premiered at the Cannes film festival earlier this year.

The film is based on Romain Puertolas's bestseller, The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir Who Got Trapped in an Ikea Wardrobe.

Dhanush plays Ajatashatru Oghash Rathod, a con man from Mumbai, who sets out to find his father. The journey takes him through Italy, France, the UK, Spain and Libya.

Aside from Dhanush, the film features actors Berenice Bejo, Barkhad Abdi, and Erin Moriarty. The film is set to be screened at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, which begins on 10 August and concludes on 22 August.

Speaking on account of the premiere, Mitu Bhowmick Lange, director of the IIFM, said, "What better way than to have one of India's most loved stars Dhanush present his film for the first time to an Australian Indian audience. We are absolutely honoured and can't wait to welcome him and his beautiful film to our festival."

In a statement, Dhanush said, "Really excited to showcase the film for all my Australian fans. See you guys soon."
