Director Abhinav Kashyap’s Dabangg (2010) became a blockbuster and the film is still remembered for its high entertainment value. The film also kickstarted Salman Khan’s streak for hit films, which continues to this day. However, there is one person who once regretted doing the film despite the cult status it has achieved.
Mahie Gill has come out and said that the film did her more harm than good. While talking to the news agency PTI, she said, “After Dev D (2009), I had won a lot of appreciation and awards. People wanted to sign me for films. But I did Dabangg and it backfired big time. The producers started to offer me small roles. I felt very bad, but I did not know what was happening. I believe in destiny a lot, I think this was meant to happen. I did regret doing the role, but now I do not.”
It was Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster (2011) that brought her relief. “In my case, it [Dabangg] backfired. My career stopped at that very point. Thanks to Tigmanshu Dhulia for offering me the Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster series. I am proud of this series. When we started with the first part, we did not think it would become a hit. The best thing about this franchise is that it is growing, the characters are the same, but the story is in continuity. That is the beauty of this franchise,” added Gill.
She was also appreciated for Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns (2013). The third film in the franchise, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 will be out in theatres on 27 July.
