Director Shaad Ali’s Soorma (2018), the biopic of former India hockey star Sandeep Singh, performed average at the box office on its first Monday in India. The film, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Taapsee Pannu, collected Rs2 crore yesterday, as per figures shared by Boxofficeindia.com.
After opening at Rs3.25 crore on Friday, the film earned Rs13.25 crore in its first weekend. The film’s Monday collection is 40% less than its Friday earnings.
As per trade sources, Soorma is made at an estimated budget of Rs25 crore (including prints and advertisements). The film’s total currently stands at Rs15.25 crore. If it doesn’t hold well in the rest of the weekdays, it is likely to struggle at the box office. The film also needs to perform decently in its second weekend.
Hollywood movie Ant-Man And The Wasp has performed better, earning Rs2.50 crore yesterday and taking its overall total to Rs21.50 crore.
Meanwhile, director Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju (2018) earned Rs2.50 crore yesterday, which is a good number for a third Monday. The Ranbir Kapoor-starrer has so far earned a mammoth Rs312.33 crore.
The highest third week collection this year has been that of Padmaavat at Rs30 crore. It will be interesting to see if Sanju crosses that number. The film currently stands at Rs22.50 crore in its third week so far.
