After being mired in a number of controversies, Batti Gul Meter Chalu (2018), featuring Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Yami Gautam, finally has a new release date. The film, directed by Shree Narayan Singh, will hit the theatres on 14 September. The film was earlier supposed to be released on 31 August.
The makers have made the announcement in an official statement after the shoot of the film was completed recently. “The shoot of the film was recently wrapped up in Mumbai with a song. Apart from Mumbai, the major parts of the film were shot in Tehri, Uttarakhand,” said the statement.
Batti Gul Meter Chalu tackles the issue of electricity companies charging obscene amounts from its users. The Marathi film Ek Cup Chya (2009) by Sumitra Bhave and Sunil Sukthankar was also based on the issue.
Few months ago, the shoot of the film was stalled after a financial dispute between T-Series and its then producer KriArj Entertainment. T-Series then took over the film with Singh also getting the credit of co-producer.
Last week, while speaking exclusively with Cinestaan.com, Singh had expressed how relieved he was with the issues settling down. “It’s a big relief. I was really tense that film might get shelved. This film is very dear to me. I will never forget that two-and-a-half months period of struggle. We had finished 65-70% of my film. And the problems happened. I’d been fine if we had shot for just 7-8 days, then we encountered such troubles. We had finished shooting for 35-40 days,” he said.
The film will now clash with Pradeep Sarkar's Kajol-starrer Helicopter Eela.
