Padmaavat, Sanju get 5 nominations each at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne


Over 60 films in 22 languages will be shown at the festival that will be held from 10 to 22 August 2018.

We’ve only completed half of 2018 but this year’s blockbusters Padmaavat and Sanju are already on their to win awards on the global front. The upcoming Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) announced its nominations for the period of Indian films released in 2017 – 2018 and both Padmaavat and Sanju are tied with five nominations a piece. Over 60 films in 22 languages will be shown at the festival.

Besides the blockbusters, Indian independent films like the National Award-winning Village Rockstars, Sir, Balekempa and Mayurkashi have also been recognised in a separate category. However, the mainstream and independent films are pitted against each other in the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director and Best Supporting Performance award categories.

The jury for the Westpac IFFM Awards consists of four Australians and three Indians. The Australian contigent includes screenwriter Andrew Anastasios, filmmaker Geoffery Wright, editor Jill Bilcock and producer Sue Maslin, while India is represented by actress Simi Garewal, filmmaker Nikkhil Advani, and film critic Rajeev Masand.
