With the audience reacting positively to its first original Indian series, Sacred Games, Netflix has already released the trailer to its second upcoming original, Ghoul.

Starring Radhika Apte and Manav Kaul, the series seems to be a supernatural thriller taking place in an interrogation camp. Written and directed by Patrick Graham, the series is set to launch on the platform on 24 August.

The trailer begins with Apte's character giving up her father for anti-national and seditious writing. Apte plays an intelligence officer in charge of an interrogation camp. While her 'patriotism' earns her the praise of her superior (Manav Kaul), she is tasked with finding out about a terrorist Ali Saeed Al Yacoub.

The scene shifts to the interrogation centre, Meghdoot 31 (a take on the infamous Area 51 perhaps?), where the interned prisoners refuse to say anything other than repeating the threat of 'a mission fulfilled'. When Apte begins her interrogation, there is a chilling remark about her father, which sets the tone for the horror to unfold.

The series looks to be very different to Apte's ongoing work in Sacred Games, where she again played an intelligence officer. Ghoul's touch of the supernatural, and the effects of a thriller make for an interesting combination.

The series is a collaboration between Phantom Films and Blumhouse Productions, and is among the three original series that are in the pipeline.
