Ranveer Singh, who is receiving much praise for his portrayal of antagonist Alauddin Khilji in the film Padmaavat, was touched to receive a note of appreciation from former superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

An overjoyed Singh wrote on Twitter: “Mujhe mera award mil gaya [I have got my award]." Bachchan also sent him flowers in appreciation.

Awards are meant to honour performances and dear as these trophies are, artistes always eye respect from peers and seniors. Singh is being unanimously praised from all quarters for his stellar show in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period film.

Alauddin Khilji is the first dark, negative character that Singh has played in his career.

Singh's co-star and real-life girlfriend Deepika Padukone also received praise in the form of a note and flowers from veterans Rishi and Neetu Kapoor.

Bachchan is known to encourage talent. Last year he sent a note of appreciation to Rajkummar Rao for his brilliant act in Bareilly Ki Barfi.
