Actor Sidharth Malhotra recently appeared on a TV reality show (Bigg Boss) with actor Manoj Bajpayee to promote their film, Aiyaary. The duo indulged in some fun, as they recited some dialogues from Salman Khan's Tiger Zinda Hai (2017) in Bhojpuri. Malhotra likened reciting the dialogues to feelings of 'latrine' relieving himself. The comment did not go down well with actress Neetu N Chandra who slammed the actor on Twitter.
Chandra called Malhotra’s comments an insult to the Bhojpuri language.
So disappointed @S1dharthM some1who is so fortunate 2 work wd d best. Who despite being an outsider has made a name 4 himself,4 U 2 use ur words so loosely.2 disrespect #Bhojpuri on national TV. SHOCKED! How on earth does speaking in #Bhojpuri gives u a latrine feeling.Shame on U pic.twitter.com/dQqarHZRqM— Neetu N Chandra (@Neetu_Chandra) January 22, 2018
Chandra's Twitter mentions were flooded with users slamming Malhotra. The actor then issued an apology on Twitter saying that he didn’t mean to insult any language.
I recently tried speaking a new language while I was on a TV show. In the process if I inadvertently hurt anyone's feelings or sentiments, I apologise and assure you that no disrespect was meant in any way.— Sidharth Malhotra (@S1dharthM) January 22, 2018
Bajpayee asked Malhotra to repeat the line: “Shikar to sab kehu karela, lekin baagh jaisan sikar kehu na kare." (Everyone hunts, but no one hunts like Tiger).
"Aisa lag raha hai ki neeche baitha hua hai, latrine mein. Bathroom mein kar rahe hain ki kahan hain?" (It seems as if the speaker is sitting inside the toilet).
It was the 'latrine' comment that upset Chandra and Bhojpuri fans.
Aiyaary will be released on 9 February.
