Padmaavat row: Student injured as Rajput Karni Sena vandalizes school property

A school student was left injured in an attack by the fringe group Rajput Karni Sena in the Ratlam city of Madhya Pradesh. Goons allegedly attacked St Paul’s Convent School in Ratlam after getting to know that the students performed on the song ‘Ghoomar’ from Padmaavat.
The school students had performed on the song during an annual day function. The Rajput Karni Sena vandalized the school property while the performance was going on, as reported by the news agency ANI.
Despite the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) clearing Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat to be released on 25 January, the Rajput Karni Sena had vowed last week to make sure that the film does not get a smooth release.
The police reached the school to investigate the matter. So far, no arrests have been made in connection to the incident.
Padmaavat is already banned in Madhya Pradesh by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He had made this announcement before its initial release date which was 1 December 2017. The fact that the students performed on the song of the movie despite it being banned seem to have triggered the action of the Karni Sena members.
Padmaavat is also banned in states like Gujarat and Rajasthan.
