The International Association of Professional Women in Radio and Television (IAWRT) is a global organization of women professionals from the electronic and allied media.
The IAWRT works to strengthen initiatives to ensure that women's views and values are an integral part of programming and to advance their impact in the media.
The IAWRT collaborates with media organizations, organizes conferences, implements projects and undertakes activities. The organization has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Every year, to mark International Women's Day on 8 March, the IAWRT's India chapter holds the Asian Women's Film Festival at the Indian International Centre (IIC) in New Delhi where films made by women directors of Asian origin are screened.
The films are of various types — animation, non-fiction, shorts, features, experimental and student — and help to understand our lives and times.
The festival was launched in 2005 and this year its 14th edition takes place from 5-7 March. Over the years the festival has grown in strength and popularity and today filmmakers from across the world participate with their works.
The festival also travels to cities across India regularly while specially curated packages are sent to film festivals in other countries. Aaradhana Kohli Kapur is the festival's director while the curation team comprises Kohli Kapur, Smriti Nevatia and Anjali Monteiro (general programming), Aparna Sanyal and Chandita Mukherjee (student films), and Nina Sabnani (animation and experimental films).
