Raakshas trailer: Child explores demons, old folklore in Dnyanesh Zoting's intriguing thriller

It is easy to imagine the first writers of fables and fairytales transforming the evil world of men into a demonic one using their own imaginations. In Dnyanesh Zoting's Raakshas, this parable transposes itself to a jungle in the interiors of Maharashtra.
The trailer begins with a woman (Sai Tamhankar) who is in search of her husband (Sharad Kelkar). They travel to a far-out jungle in interior Maharashtra. Even as the threat of Maoism looms large, she continues the search. It is her little daughter (Rujuta Deshpande), who turns to the jungle as a fabulistic world. While the mother traverses a path that is barred by Maoists, political fights, and tribals battling for their jungle, the little girl seeks help from an old man of the jungle to find the 'demon' who has captured her father.
The trailer shows a wonderful storyline that merges the real world of the adults with an old jungle tale, with a child as a witness. While Tamhankar and Kelkar lead the cast, it is the little Deshpande who delivers the more intriguing part of the film. The storyline seems to revolve around the life in the interiors of the jungles that is often hidden from urban eyes. The slight hint towards the growing ignorance of this form of life also makes for an interesting addition.
Produced by Vivek Kajaria and Nilesh Navalakha and presented by Samit Kakkad Films, Raakshas will be released on 23 February.
