Filmmaker Mainak Bhaumik released the first look of his upcoming rom-com Ghawre And Baire today. Along with a poster with fairy tale inspired illustrations of the cast — Jisshu Sengupta and Koel Mullick — the new age director also shared his thoughts behind making the film in an article for The Telegraph.

The director, who made films like Bedroom (2012), Maach Mishti & More (2013), Aami Aar Amar Girlfriends (2013) and Bibaho Diaries (2017), elaborated that he used the shell and coral bangles, a traditional mark of a Bengali bride and a modern setting for the poster to highlight the timeless theme of the love story.

A die-hard fan of rom-coms from all over the world, Bhaumik got the name of the protagonists, Amit and Labanya, from Rabindranath Tagore’s popular novel Sesher Kobita. However, Bhaumik also claimed that while sketching the characters, his Bengali sensibilities got infused with his experience of watching Woody Allen films.

The love story of Amit and Labanya that goes through hurdles in a comic and dramatic way is set in the Instagram and instant coffee decade. While Labanya is a no-nonsense girl with tomboyish attributes, Amit is a typically romantic, yet overstressed guy.

Bhaumik stated that he could not think of actors other than Mullick and Sengupta to fit the characters. He also added that many preconceived notions regarding the actors’ working methods broke during the shooting of the film and the entire team had a thoroughly joyful ride.
