One cannot have a list of best on-screen couples without adding this pair to it.
Prabhu, son of the legendary thespian Sivaji Ganesan, has been one of the most loved actors of all time in Tamil cinema — not only for his lineage, but also for his exceptional acting skills, his graceful dancing and, more importantly, his childlike face and dimpled cheeks.
Despite being overweight, Prabhu was an instant hit, thanks to the charisma he exuded. Prabhu's best on-screen partner till date has been actress Khushboo, who had a huge and devoted fan following back then that even went to the extent of building a temple to her!
Prabhu and Khushboo, two stars who commanded a huge fan following individually, complemented each other on screen so beautifully that audiences couldn't resist watching them again and again.
The two worked together in almost a dozen films, but the most cherished one would undoubtedly be P Vasu's blockbuster Chinna Thambi (1991), which smashed all records at the Tamil box office.
Chinna Thambi ran for 365 days across the state and audiences simply kept coming in. The film was addictive in every way possible. To give the non-Tamil reader an idea of how compelling this film was, audiences, even in rural parts, were willing to buy tickets in black to watch it for the second and the third time!
There were other films too, like Vetri Vizha (1989), My Dear Marthandan (1990) and Naalaya Seidhi (1992) in which audiences liked the pairing. However, none was as successful as Chinna Thambi.
At a certain point, the industry was rife with rumours that the two were even interested in each other. Eventually, the rumours died down and the two artistes went their separate ways. Nevertheless, Prabhu and Khushboo remain one of the most adored on-screen pairs in Tamil cinema.
