Welcome To New York song: Sonakshi's 'Nain Phisal Gaye' on the very 'chulbul' Salman

Sung by Payal Dev, the song is composed by Sajid-Wajid with lyrics by Kausar Munir.

Welcome To New York has enough guest appearances to make the presence of the lead pair seem insignificant. With Rana Daggubati, Neha Dhupia, Karan Johar and Riteish Deshmukh joining the comic pairing of Diljit Dosanjh and Sonakshi Sinha, Chakri Toleti's film pokes fun at the industry. And few people can lend it the sly humour as Salman Khan does.

The film has Sinha playing a gauche designer with dreams of dressing up the biggest stars in Hindi cinema. Evidently, her idol is Salman Khan. The song kicks off on this very idea of Sinha's character dreaming of designing for her crush, Salman Khan.

Incidentally, the actress got her first big break opposite Khan in Dabangg (2010). In the song, she plays out the dream of trying to tailor to her crush's biceps and designs, with a very peppy song playing in the background. While the chemistry between the two is as playful as it can get, it feels a little to saccharine to be true.

The song is voiced by Payal Dev, and carries a pleasing lilt to it. The easy rhythm of Sajid-Wajid's composition is a nice touch. Kausar Munir's lyrics play on the 'tailoring' theme, with the verses carrying buttons, stitches, and other idioms along.

In all, the song is pleasant and entertaining, and might just be the earworm to get this film going.

Welcome To New York, directed by Chakri Toleti, will be released on 23 February.
