Earlier this year, Aamir Khan had spoken about his dream of making a film on the great Indian epic Mahabharata. There were also reports stating Aamir is keen to play the role of Krishna in it and that industrialist Mukesh Ambani is planning to spend a whopping Rs1000 crore on the project as its producer. Later, reports suggested that Aamir has dropped the idea of venturing into the project.

However, at a media interaction during the Cinestaan India Storytellers’ Contest last month, screenwriter Anjum Rajabali accidentally revealed that Aamir was indeed working on Mahabharata. The event was also attended by Aamir who promptly hushed Rajabali from speaking further on the subject.

Rajabali informed that the actor was unable to work on Saare Jahan Se Achha, which Rajabali has written, as he was occupied with Mahabharata. “Frankly speaking, I was very keen that he would do it [Saare Jahan Se Achcha] and Aamir at that point liked it. We discussed it a lot. We had a lot of hopes for it. But unfortunately, the larger project of Mahabharata which he was consumed by...,” Rajabali said, before being cut short by Aamir.

Now, Shah Rukh Khan has also revealed that Aamir is playing the role of Krishna in Mahabharata. During an interview with DNA, a daily, when Shah Rukh was asked if he would like to play Krishna, he said, “I think Krishna from Mahabharata is already taken by Aamir, so I will not be able to do that.”

Going by these revelations, it seems that project Mahabharata is on and Aamir is playing Krishna in it.
