In recent times, Arijit Singh has become the go-to singer for deep and soulful romantic songs. He is the main man behind the ‘Aahista’ song from director Sajid Ali’s Laila Majnu, which stars debutants Avinash Tiwary and Tripti Dimri.

Singh delves deep into Irshad Kamil’s non-cliched lyrics that speak about the protagonist’s longing for love. The singer makes a relatively smooth switch between the high and low pitches in the song.

He is ably supported by Jonita Gandhi, who had last lent her voice to the Race 3 (2018) theme song 'Allah Duhai'.

The chemistry between Tiwary and Dimri is decent, and that’s about it. More about the actual rapport between the two will be known when the film is released.

The song has some breathtaking visuals from Kashmir, especially the Dal Lake and the nearby Nishat Bagh. Sayak Bhattacharya’s creative camerawork adds to the beauty. The top shot of a bridge at the start is a treat.

Sajid Ali is the brother of known filmmaker Imtiaz Ali. The latter has also written the film.

Laila Majnu will be released on 7 September.
